KUALA LUMPUR: Hasliza Harun had a haunting dream of her grand-niece Mariam Afeeya Abdul Hakim being lowered into the grave by her father three days before it happened.
The 16-month-old toddler died after the three-wheeled motorcycle she was riding with her brother and cousin skidded and fell into a canal in Kampung Tok Belian, Tawang on Friday.
Hasliza, who is also Mariam's babysitter, said she did not expect her dream to come true and witnessed Mariam Afeeya being buried at the Pauh Sembilan Islamic cemetery on Saturday.
She said she had come to terms with the incident, and said Mariam's family did not blame anyone, including her 12-year-old son who was riding the motorcycle.
She said she had been taking care of the girl since she was 3 months old and had pampered her.
"The day before the incident, she stared at me for a long time and suddenly cried in my arms. Her death has affected me.
"I feel guilty about what happened, but who can prevent the will of the Almighty?"
She added that her youngest son was still traumatised by the incident.
He had told her that before they fell into the river, the motorcycle's handles were jammed.
"Villagers nearby heard their screams and rushed to the river, shocked to see my son and his cousin struggling in the water.
"However, after the two of them were rescued, one of them realised Mariam was missing and her body was found at the bottom of the river," she said.
