FT religious council appeals for waqaf donations

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council — Zakat Collection Centre is calling on Muslims to start making waqaf contributions.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Abdul Hakim Amir Osman said waqaf has yet to become a cultural practice within the Muslim community.

"Waqaf has not yet become a cultural norm. I hope that through our meeting with Media Prima today, we can help promote this practice," he said during his visit to Media Prima Bhd, today.

He added that anyone could make waqaf without any specific conditions.

"In fact, even those not required to pay zakat can make waqaf and gain rewards beyond the obligatory acts of worship," he added.

He said a discussion was also held about potential collaborative programmes about waqaf and zakat with Media Prima based on their available budget.

"This collaboration is not new. We have had a long-standing partnership.

"We are deeply grateful to Media Prima for helping to disseminate the message of zakat to the Muslim community," he added.
