2025 Budget wishlist: Nancy proposes new academy to boost women's financial independence

KUALA LUMPUR: A proposal to establish a Women's Academy is in place aimed at enhancing the economic empowerment of women nationwide.

Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said this initiative was part of the ministry's wishlist for the 2025 Budget.

The proposed academy aims to be a central hub, providing women nationwide with essential resources, training, and support to enhance their financial independence.

It will also offer a dedicated space for women entrepreneurs to thrive and contribute more effectively to their families and communities.

"This academy will be a cornerstone in our efforts to uplift women economically.

"We want to create a central place where women can access everything they need to advance economically and support their families," she said during a press conference following the launch of the Strivers' Hub website.

The Women's Academy will not only focus on educational programmes but will also function as a comprehensive support system for women entrepreneurs.

The goal is to create a one-stop centre where women, regardless of their age or background, can seek assistance and resources to become more economically independent.

Nancy said the ministry was committed to working closely with other government agencies to enhance women's economic participation.

"We aim for women to become more independent and serve as role models for their children. This is why we are prioritising economic empowerment and collaborating with other ministries on this important initiative," she added.

The success of the Women's Academy depends on receiving approval from the Finance Ministry, with details expected to be finalised in the upcoming budget discussions.

She expressed optimism about the potential impact of the academy and the need for a fresh approach to women's economic empowerment within the ministry.
