KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Youth Council has requested to delay the implementation of the new age limit for youth in the state.
Sabah Youth Council (MBS) president Abqaree Fawwaz Abekan said this step was necessary to prepare youths in the state to take over the existing youth leadership platforms.
"Based on a statewide tour with other youth leaders, 80 per cent are not prepared for this transition due to several factors that we have discussed at the MBS Supreme Council level.
"Therefore, MBS believes that after the implementation of the Youth Leadership Transition Plan and the Grassroots Leadership Transition Plan, the age definition for youth in Sabah should remain at 15 to 40 years after a certain period.
"This way, these youth organisations can effectively mobilise their communities," Abqaree was quoted in a statement after the state National Youth Consultation Council (MPBN) 2024 State Level Sabah meeting.
Starting Jan 1, 2026, in accordance with the Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019 (Act A1602). the youth age limit would be revised to 30 from the current limit of 40.
