GUA MUSANG: Residents in Felda Chiku 7 here faced anxious moments when the Sungai Chiku water level rose abruptly within three hours following heavy rain, forcing them to move to the temporary relief centre at Dewan Semai Bakti yesterday.

A resident, 40-year-old Muzri Mohamad said the houses and roads around the village were inundated and could only be reached by boat.

"It has been raining non-stop since yesterday and the situation became worse when the river broke its banks," he told reporters yesterday.

Meanwhile, Paloh village head Razali Mat Daud, 40, said the residents were all prepared much earlier when the river water level began to rise and they were all moved to the relief centre in stages since it was opened this morning.

"At 11am today, the flood-hit residents began moving to the relief centre after their houses and the whole area was flooded and we expect the number of evacuees to increase as it is still raining now," he said. – BERNAMA
