KUANTAN: The Conference of Speakers of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies in Sarawak next month will focus on empowering legislative institutions.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said his ongoing trip to meet state assembly speakers aimed to keep abreast with transformation initiatives.
"I am visiting each state assembly to meet the speakers to share experience, develop new ideas and study new methods that can be applied in legislative institutions.
"Each state has its own constitution and we can learn from each other.
"We hope to standardise some aspects, including administration, in Parliament and state assemblies.
"Findings and proposals from the conference will be put together for the government to consider," he said at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
Earlier, Johari visited the Pahang government's new administration complex, the Sultan Ahmad Shah Administration Centre in KotaSAS here.
Present was Pahang Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin and his deputy, Lee Chin Chen.
Johari said the conference from Sept 11 to 14 in Kuching would be attended by all state assembly speakers, their deputies and state assembly secretaries.
He said the digital transformation in Parliament and state assemblies would be among the topics discussed.
"We are expecting the tabling of several proposals.
"The conference is an ideal platform to exchange views on best practices in legislative institutions.
"At the end of the conference, a resolution will be prepared to be proposed to the government."
