KUALA LUMPUR: Disciplinary action has already been taken against the VVIP escort policeman who was reported to have injured a disabled e-hailing driver in an assault at the st Regis Hotel on May 28.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the action was taken immediately after an internal investigation by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) in early June.
He said any policeman involved in disciplinary issues is subjected to action such as warnings, withholding of salary increments, suspension and demotion.
"Apart from this, he is also being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt," he told Berita Harian.
Razarudin reiterated that the force would never protect any of its members who did anything wrong.
He was replying to a statement from lawyer N. Surendran, who represents the 48-year-old e-hailing driver, Ong Ing Keong.
Surendran had questioned police action and the Attorney-General's Chambers for what was perceived as a lack of action in the case after two months.
He had said he had sent questions to the A-GC over the case but had yet to receive any reply.
Ong had lodged a report after the alleged assault, saying the escort to a VVIP had injured him in an assault while he was picking up passengers at the St Regis Hotel in the KL Sentral area.
A week after the incident, Razarudin had said police had completed the investigation paper regarding the assault and had handed it to the deputy public prosecutor's office for further action.
The IP was sent back to police with the order to investigate further, before being returned to the DPP's office on July 22.
