Prasarana announces 24-hour rail, bus operations for Merdeka Eve

PETALING JAYA: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana), through Rapid KL, has announced that all its rail services, as well as the BRT Sunway Line and selected bus routes, will operate around the clock on Merdeka Eve in conjunction with the 67th National Day celebrations.

Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said the rail services included Light Rail Transit, Mass Rapid Transit and the monorail line.

The extended service, he said, is being offered for the first time as part of Prasarana's initiative to support the government's efforts to enhance the National Day celebrations.

"As such, all rail services will operate from 6.00 am on Aug 30 until 11.30 pm the following day.

"Rapid KL will also provide up to 60 free shuttle buses from the Putrajaya Sentral MRT Station to Dataran Putrajaya, starting at 6.00 pm on Aug 30 until 3.00 pm on Aug 31, to facilitate city dwellers who wish to celebrate the 2024 National Day celebration in Putrajaya.

"Nine buses will also be available from the Putrajaya Sentral MRT Station to various attractions around Putrajaya, such as the Botanical Gardens, Marina Putrajaya, Alamanda, and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on Aug 31," he told reporters after launching Prasarana's Merdeka Month Celebrations.

He also said that Prasarana is committed to providing the best service with over 4,000 Rapid KL frontline staff working in shifts to ensure the smooth operation of the 24-hour service and to provide a good travel experience during this year's National Day celebrations.

"Prasarana, in collaboration with the Putrajaya Corporation and the police, will ensure that these special bus routes run smoothly, with Prasarana's auxiliary policemen on duty to assist the organisers with traffic management.

"Motorists around Putrajaya are also advised to follow the authorities' instructions and avoid obstructing bus routes during the celebrations.

"Users are also encouraged to use their Touch 'n Go cards and ensure that their Touch 'n Go card balances are sufficient," he said.

Azharuddin also called for people to use Rapid KL's rail and bus services to avoid congestion, adding that more than 10,000 parking spaces are available at selected rail stations.

Previously, the government decided that this year's National Day would take place in Putrajaya for the second time under the Madani government with last year's celebration saw around 100,000 people flocking to Dataran Putrajaya for the celebration.

It will also be the sixth time the National Day celebration will be hosted in Putrajaya.
