SK Darulaman Heights pupils and teachers unite to create handprint Jalur Gemilang

JITRA: In the spirit of the National Day celebration, around 1,240 pupils, teachers, and staff members of SK Darulaman Heights came together to create a large Jalur Gemilang using their handprints.

The 18-metre-long flag, which took about a week to complete, is now displayed at one of the school blocks as the 67th National Day approaches.

The school's headmaster Mafezzul Mohamad said the project not only nurtures a sense of patriotism among the pupils but also educates them on the importance of unity and working together

"This flag took nearly a week to complete, with each of the 1,240 people contributing one by one.

"We will keep this displayed throughout this year's Merdeka month celebrations.

"We told each student, as they added their handprints to the flag, to not only express their patriotism on the cloth but also to keep it in their hearts," he told reporters after opening the school's Merdeka Month Celebration programme today.

During the programme's opening ceremony, the school celebrated the Merdeka spirit by singing the national anthem, patriotic songs, reciting poetry, and storytelling while waving the Jalur Gemilang.

Mafezzul added that, through the programme, the school has scheduled various activities in the weeks leading up to the National Day celebration on Aug 31.

History teacher Nurhanis Zamshah said the idea for the event was jointly developed by the school's history, music, and art teachers.

"The pupils were curious about what they were doing at the start of the project.

"What made the project special was seeing the happiness on their faces when the flag was unveiled," she said.
