PM: Pay raise comes with added responsibilities

PUTRAJAYA: The new salary adjustments for civil servants announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim come with added responsibilities, said Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

He said that civil servants must meet public expectations by delivering the best possible service.

"This is a great honour and the highest recognition for civil servants, but it also comes with sacrifices. Civil servants must meet public expectations — there are no shortcuts, and everything is based on performance," he said after attending the 19th Civil Service Premier Assembly at the Plenary Hall, Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) today (Friday).

Earlier, Anwar announced a 15 per cent salary adjustment for the implementation group of civil servants and a seven per cent adjustment for the top management.

He added that the adjustment would be implemented in stages, with the first phase beginning on Dec 1.

"The next phase will start on Jan 1, 2026, and we are implementing it gradually due to constraints and to avoid inflation," he said.
