Family of delivery rider in Elmina crash wishes to put matter to rest

SUNGAI PETANI: The family of delivery rider Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh, who was killed in the Elmina air crash last year, is not planning to pursue legal action over his death.

His parents, Muhamad Salleh Othman, 58, and Jamilah Ismail, 54, said they have come to terms with the loss of their eldest child.

"We have accepted and made peace with what happened to our son.

"Many lawyers have approached us since the incident to offer their services to pursue legal action, but we have politely turned down the offers.

"It was fated that he had left us in such a way. We have accepted it. It will just cause more pain to us if we go down that path (pursuing legal action)," he said while holding back tears.

The family held a Yassin and 'tahlil' recital for Hafiz at their home in Taman Sidam Kiri here today to mark one year of the fateful aircraft crash in Elmina, Shah Alam which killed Hafiz and nine others.

Today, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that the cause of the Elmina air crash was due to loss of control inflight.

AAIB in its final report found that the primary cause of the accident was the inadvertent extension of the lift dump spoilers, most likely by the pilot who was the second-in-command, during the Before Landing checks.

In the 2.40pm incident on Aug 17 last year, the Hawker Beechcraft 390 private aircraft crashed moments before it was to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang.

It was reported that the aeroplane, operated by Jet Valet Sdn Bhd had earlier departed the Langkawi International Airport.

Ten people perished in the tragedy; six passengers, including Pahang's Pelangai state assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun, two pilots and two motorists on the ground who were struck by the crashing aircraft.
