KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his anger and deep regret at the actions of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who deliberately belittled and disputed the duties and role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during his reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
In a statement issued by Istana Abdulaziz, Tengku Hassanal wants the police to take decisive action without compromise against the Perikatan Nasional chairman for touching on 3R issues (royalty, religion, and race).
Tengku Hassanal described the statement by the former prime minister and veteran politician as having manipulated the facts and brought a negative narrative to the people that Al-Sultan Abdullah seemed to be unfair when electing the 10th Prime Minister.
"His statement also looks immature, it seems as if he still cannot accept that he was not appointed as the prime minister.
"This statement he issued is also very dangerous because it openly incites the people to lose faith in the institution of Malay Rulers and divides the people," he said.
Tengku Hassanal said, based on Article 40(2) of the Federal Constitution, the prime minister is appointed at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who acts as Head of State.
Article 43(2) stipulates that the prime minister must be appointed from among the members of the House of Representatives who, in his opinion, have the confidence of the majority of the members of the House.
Tengku Hassanal said Al-Sultan Abdullah did not arbitrarily decide to appoint the prime minister even though the constitution gave him absolute power.
"His Majesty at that time had called constitutional experts, the country's main public servants, and the latter also consulted with the Council of Rulers and finally the appointment of the current prime minister was made.
"Parliament has also approved a vote of confidence towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Dec 19, 2022. In that regard, the result was clear and in line with the consideration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah when His Majesty chose Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
"Therefore, I want the police to take decisive action without compromise against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who deliberately touched the sentiments of the 3Rs (royalty, religion, and race).
"I also want to advise all politicians, as leaders of the people, to always stick to the principles of Rukun Negara and continue to unite the people so that Malaysia as a multi-ethnic country can become a developed country, excel economically, its surrounding environment is sustainable and the people are happy," he said.
Muhyiddin was said to have touched on the authority of Al-Sultan Abdullah when he was the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong during a ceramah during the Nenggiri by-election in Felda Perasu on Aug 15.
Tengku Hassanal's private secretary Amir Syafiq Hamzah made a police report on the matter at the Kuantan police station at 10.38pm yesterday.
