KUALA LUMPUR: The government will decide whether the humanitarian mission to bring injured Palestinian civilians to Malaysia for treatment will be continued.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said so far, the entry of Palestinian civilians has been limited to those who were brought in last Friday.
"It depends on the government's decision at this point regarding the entry of Palestinian civilians for treatment. That's all for now.
"The reason is that it's not easy to facilitate their arrival," Khaled told reporters after attending the ministry-level National Month celebration, here.
Also present were the Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak; Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman, Air Force chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan; and Acting Navy chief, Vice Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain.
Last Friday, 41 Palestinian civilians injured in the Israeli attacks on Gaza, accompanied by 86 of their relatives, safely arrived at the Subang Air Force Base.
The Airbus A400M aircraft carrying the Palestinian civilians departed from Almaza Air Base in Egypt, following a 13-hour flight with a brief stopover in Karachi before continuing to Malaysia.
The mission was undertaken following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement at the Palestine Solidarity Rally on Aug 4 in Kuala Lumpur where he said that the country will provide medical treatment to the injured Palestinian civilians.
