Saifuddin confident Muhyiddin will cooperate with alleged sedition probe

KUBANG PASU: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is confident that Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will fully cooperate in the investigation over his allegedly seditious remarks on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues during the Nenggiri state seat by-election campaign.

Saifuddin said a date had been set for the former prime minister to be called in for allegedly belittling and disputing the duties and role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, during his reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"I just read a statement from my officer, and there is a specific paragraph where Tuanku (Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah) urged the police to expedite the investigation as Tuanku believes there are clear elements of sedition.

"I understand from the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain that a date has been set for former prime minister Muhyiddin to be called in.

"I believe he will have no trouble cooperating and the process will take place soon," he told reporters after opening the state-level Merdeka Day celebrations at Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah here today.

A speech by Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, allegedly questioning the sovereignty of Al-Sultan Abdullah during his time as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, had recently gone viral.

In his speech, he claimed he had the support of 115 members of parliament after the 15th General Election and the king should have called him to be sworn in as the 10th prime minister.

Earlier today, in a statement issued by Istana Abdulaziz, Tengku Hassanal urged the police to take decisive action without compromise against Muhyiddin for touching on 3R issues.

Tengku Hassanal described the statement by Muhyiddin as having manipulated the facts and brought a negative narrative to the people that Al-Sultan Abdullah seemed to be unfair when electing the 10th Prime Minister.

The Pahang police received 28 reports on the matter.

Razarudin said they would call Muhyiddin tomorrow to provide his statement to aid the investigation.
