RANAU: A teenage girl was found drowned after reportedly being swept away while swimming in a river at Kampung Sungangon, Jalan Ranau, Sandakan, earlier this afternoon.
Nerlyne Christine Januai, 13, was found unconscious by villagers about 500 metres from the location where she was reported to have drowned.
District Fire and Rescue station chief assistant Fire, Superintendent Ridwan Mohd Taib, said they first received a report of the incident at 4.37pm.
Following that, he said a team of firefighters was dispatched to the location for a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and handed her over to the police for further action.
