Pahang MB advises against coastal, river activities during northeast monsoon

KUANTAN: As the number of flood victims in Pahang continues to rise, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail today reminded the public to avoid outings on the river and at sea.

He said the public must stay away from engaging in activities near coastal areas and rivers to avoid any untoward incidents.

"Prioritise safety and stay away from water activities during the northeast monsoon season. May Allah protect us from any calamities.

"I hope that all the flood victims in Raub and Lipis will be patient and obey instructions from the authorities. I would like to thank the rescue teams and agencies who have provided assistance for the evacuees to seek shelter at flood relief centres," he wrote in a Facebook posting.

Raub was the first district in Pahang to be hit by floods brought on by the northeast monsoon yesterday, followed by Lipis today, with 457 victims from 131 families evacuated to eight relief centres.

As of 3pm today, Raub has 227 victims from 67 families at six relief centres while Lipis has 230 victims from 44 families at two centres.
