Residents see red over recurring landslides in neighbourhood

KUALA SELANGOR: Residents of Cendana Puncak Bestari have taken the local council to task following recurring landslides in their housing area.

The second case of the landslide which occurred at 10.25pm on Sunday, caused severe damage to the residents' boundary walls, heightening concerns within the local community.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang during the incident, and when they rushed to inspect the scene, they found that the collapsed land was large and deep.

One of the affected residents, Muhammad Firdaus Redzuan, 44, said his family had been unable to sleep at night following the incident.

"We are worried about the safety of our lives and property.

"The situation is already unsafe, and to make matters worse, the walls are cracked, and our house is just a few metres away from the landslide area," he said.

Noor Mariam Hashim, 47, expressed her dissatisfaction with the civil engineering consultant appointed by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS).

"The consultant has not provided full cooperation to the residents, and their work methods are unconvincing.

"We are not confident in the measures they have taken to resolve this issue, and there is a lack of strict oversight by the authorities," she said.

A representative of the Cendana Housing Residents' Association said the group intended to bring the matter to the attention of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if no appropriate action is taken.

"Lives are not something that can be taken lightly.

"We need immediate action and a transparent investigation into the cause of this incident.

"Most importantly, there must be a concrete and comprehensive solution to restore the subsided land to its original state and according to proper specifications," he said.

It was previously reported that the housing area has been facing safety issues since 2016.

On June 6, a sinkhole appeared on Jalan Bestari 2/5, with the distance between residents' houses and the formed hole being around five to ten metres.

Residents observed that part of the drainage wall had been broken for some time and claimed that the main cause was water movement within the soil.

This situation has alarmed residents, especially with the possibility of a landslide, further exacerbated by rain, as previously reported in Taman Wawasan, Puchong.
