[UPDATED] Sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India swallows woman, SAR in progress [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A search and rescue operation is currently underway for a 48-year-old woman who fell into a sinkhole along Jalan Masjid India today.

The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident by a distress call at 8.22am.

Operations commander Mohd Riduan Akhyar reported that 15 personnel, two fire engines, and two rapid intervention motorcycles were despatched from the Hang Tuah and Titiwangsa Fire Stations.

"The sinkhole, located near the Malayan Mansion on Jalan Masjid India, is about eight metres deep," he said.

The woman, an Indian national, is believed to still be trapped in the sinkhole.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with K-9 tracker units and the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia assisting at the scene.
