KUALA LUMPUR: A viral video showing former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad skillfully driving a car has received praise from netizens.
The 99-year-old veteran politician was captured testing out Proton's latest sedan, the S70 while displaying steady hands on the wheel.
Dr Mahathir was also seen driving with one hand on the steering wheel, showcasing his masterful driving skills despite the heavy traffic.
The 1-minute 17-second video, shared on TikTok by Dr Mahathir's aide Adam Mukhriz (@amofficialmy), shows Dr Mahathir driving in the city with police outriders acting as escorts.
Netizens praised Dr Mahathir, the man credited with the formation of Proton, for his ability to drive despite his age.
User @Aishah commented that despite Dr Mahathir's age his steady handling of the vehicle was impressive.
"Power, Tun M—almost 100 years old, but an excellent driver," said Aishah.
User @Hayati Rahaman also joined in the praise, stating how impressive Dr Mahathir's driving skills were.
Another user, Kak Noor (@noorsuzananordin), commented: "He (Dr Mahathir) is brave to test a new and advanced vehicle," adding that she doesn't dare to drive despite her young age.
User @elephtheria described Dr Mahathir as the "brightest 99-year-old man in the world".
User @azharmogoazhar, meanwhile, said Dr Mahathir was perhaps the only 99-year-old who could drive so skillfully.
The video has so far amassed over 509,000 views, almost 1,300 comments and over 26,000 likes.
