Sim keeps mum over bid for Penang DAP chief post [WATCH]

BUKIT MERTAJAM: DAP national organising secretary Steven Sim is keeping mum as to whether he will vie for the state DAP chief post in the party elections next month.

Speaking to newsmen here today, Sim said today was the last day for nominations and that the list of nominations would only be known after the process ends at 5pm.

The Bukit Mertajam member of parliament said he respected the nomination process and the delegates' wishes.

"As the national organising secretary, we adhere to the process. The nomination process has yet to be completed. It will only be completed later today.

"I will leave it to the party process and the delegates' wishes," he said when asked to comment on the matter.

Sim was here to launch a NIOSH programme and the presentation of ISO certification.

The state DAP is slated to hold its congress and elections on Sept 22. In the state elections three years ago, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was appointed the state DAP chairman after winning the highest number of votes of 1,211.

It has been widely speculated that Chow might not contest in the coming party elections. It was also speculated that state DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying would contest and be made the state chairman. There were also claims that Sim was tipped for the top post.

Chow recently told newsmen that he was unsure if he would be nominated to contest.
