Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker appointed as Umno Supreme Council member

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor has been appointed as one of the Umno Supreme Council members.

The matter was confirmed by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during his winding-up speech at the 2024 Umno General Assembly today.

"To honour the contributions of the Orang Asli community (in the country), I have decided that Ramli, who is also the Cameron Highland member of parliament, will be a part of the Supreme Council.

"This marks a new chapter in Umno's history where we elevate the status of the Orang Asli within the party," he said.

During the last election, Ramli also made history when he won the Cameron Highland parliamentary seat as the first MP from the Orang Asli community.

In the Nenggiri by-election, Ramli was in charge of the Orang Asli polling district centres - Tohoi, Sungai Puian, Sungai Jenera, Simpor and Sungai Wias - where Barisan Nasional's candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani secured victory in all ballot boxes.
