KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today admitted that Umno is not perfect although the party has six decades-long experience governing the country.
As such, the Umno president said, the party must self-reflect if it wishes to win the support of the people and return to its former glory.
"We admit that we are not perfect. We admit that we are not 'maksum'.
"Yes, we have 60 years of experience of being the backbone in the government. But we must self-reflect, self-criticism to improve the weaknesses in ourparty" he told reporters after he delivered his winding-up speech at the Umno General Assembly here today.
Taking into consideration the change in the country's political landscape, Zahid also Umno must re-organise the workflow at all levels in the party.
"We must change our approach to capitalising on the use of new technologies to reach out to the voters, especially the younger generation.
"Perhaps, all this while, we may overlook this aspect and not provide the matter the focus that is needed," he said.
Zahid also wants the Umno Youth and Puteri Umno wings to coordinate its workflow to help the party attract new voters.
"Umno Youth and Puteri Umno must work together and focus and coordinate their workflow at all levels, be it at the parliamentary level or state constituencies," he said.
