PM: No discussions yet on treating more Palestinians [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia would bring in more injured Palestinian victims of the genocide in Gaza only if there was a need to do so.

He, however, said there had been no discussions on the matter so far.

He said the priority now was to treat those who are already in the country.

"So far there is no discussions (to bring more injured Palestinians). The first phase is for us to treat them. We will only send them back once the situation improves.

"We will negotiate with Egypt who are aiding the Palestinians, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Qatar.

"If there is is a necessity we will discuss (to bring more Palestinians to be treated in Malaysia)," he said when speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the nationwide mosque muktamar for Al-Aqsa and Palestine.

On Aug 16, two aircraft carrying 127 injured Palestinian civilians landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Subang Air Base.

They were transported by two RMAF Airbus A400M airlifters, which flew from the Al Maza Air Base in Egypt, and arrived around 2pm to receive treatment for wounds sustained during Israel's brutal assault on Gaza.

On those who criticised Malaysia's move to bring the injured Palestinians here, Anwar said such people were only doing so for their political capital.

"That is their political capital, they did not do any work. I think they are feeling resentful and that is why they came up with all sorts of insults," he said.

On Aug 17, Anwar expressed disappointment and sadness over the backlash from some parties against the government's move to bring injured Palestinians from Gaza to receive medical treatment in Malaysia.

He said some even went to extremes in criticising the noble effort when it was indeed just a small act of compassion and kindness towards the Palestinian people who have been suffering and enduring Israel's genocidal acts in Gaza.
