One relief centre closed as number of flood evacuees drop in Perak

IPOH: The number of flood evacuees in Perak has dropped as of 6pm to 123 people from 34 families compared to 173 people from 49 families this morning, with only two relief centres still open.

The Perak state disaster management committee secretariat said in a statement that the relief centre at Masjid Jamek Slim Village in Muallim was closed at 1pm earlier today (Aug 25).

The secretariat added that 100 people from 27 families from Kampung Pasir are currently housed at Masjid Jamek Kampung Pasir in Muallim district, while 23 people from seven families from Kampung Tebuk are at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang in the district of Larut, Matang and Selama.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast rain in the majority of districts in Perak tonight, including Larut, Matang and Selama, Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.

Also, the Perak Public Works Department (JKR) announced that the A121 Jalan Slim River-Behrang Ulu route in Muallim district is still closed due to a collapsed road while FT 004 Jalan Raya Timur Barat (JRTB) Kupang Gerik-Jeli has only one lane open due to a landslide.

"The route at FT 1152 Felda Trolak Selatan in Batang Padang district also has one lane open to all traffic due to a landslide at the road's shoulder," the department said. — BERNAMA
