ALOR STAR: Kedah has recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 1.7 per cent, lower than the national average of 3.3 per cent.
State Human Resources Committee chairman Wong Chia Zhen said the achievement reflected the state's economic stability and the effectiveness of the state government's programmes.
"According to the latest data from the Statistics Department, Kedah has recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 1.7 per cent, well below the national average of 3.3 per cent.
"An unemployment rate of below four per cent is considered full optimisation of labour, which means that almost everyone willing to work in the state can secure jobs," he said at the state assembly at Wisma Darul Aman here today.
Wong, who is Kulim assemblyman, said this demonstrated the state government's commitment to ensuring prosperity by creating stable and sufficient jobs.
He said the state government organised a state-level job fair on July 20 in Sungai Petani, where about 1,200 jobseekers passed preliminary screenings conducted by 25 companies and agencies.
"The programme also offered opportunities for the target group to enrol in TVET (technical and vocational education and training) courses at various institutions in the state.
"The programme will be expanded to the district level."
