PM warns public of fake donation drives for Palestinian treatment costs

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned the public against falling prey to unscrupulous parties collecting donations purportedly to cover the costs of treating Palestinians in Malaysia.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the Prime Minister issued this warning during today's Cabinet meeting, adding that the government had never solicited or collected funds for this purpose.

"The government is not involved in any efforts to collect donations for supporting or providing meals to Palestinians receiving treatment in the country," he said at his weekly press conference today.

He said the Prime Minister urged the public to remain vigilant if they received any messages on social media from individuals or groups claiming to collect donations for this cause.

Fahmi advised anyone who received such messages to report them to the police or the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

On Aug 16, two aircraft carrying 127 injured Palestinian civilians landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Subang Air Base.

They were transported by two RMAF Airbus A400M airlifters from Al Maza Air Base in Egypt and arrived around 2pm to receive treatment for injuries sustained during Israel's brutal assault on Gaza.
