National Day: Public urged to use public transport, roads to close

PUTRAJAYA: Those attending the 67th National Day celebration are reminded to prioritise their safety and abide by the rules.

Putrajaya police chief assistant commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed advised the public to use public transportation, as the main roads to the core island will be closed from 6pm tomorrow.

"At 5am on Saturday, 10 main roads to Putrajaya will be closed. For those attending the celebrations, please come early.

"I ask for the cooperation of the public to obey the rules and stay vigilant for the safety of their families.

"Please do not park your cars in unauthorised areas. Use designated parking zones only," he told reporters when met at the National Day celebrations rehearsal, here today.

A total of 1,998 personnel, including 260 traffic police have been deployed by the department.

Aidi Sham said preparations have proceeded smoothly, and a briefing will be held early on Saturday morning.

Tomorrow and Saturday, 10 main roads around Putrajaya will be closed from 7pm until the National Day celebrations conclude.

The roads include Persiaran Barat and Lebuh Sentosa (towards Lebuh Saujana), Lebuh Sentosa and Jalan Presint 8 (towards Lebuh Wawasan), Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah heading to Laman Perdana, Jalan Presint 18 (towards Lebuh Bestari), Jalan Presint 18, Lebuh Setia and Lebuh Saujana (towards Jalan Tun Hussein) and Jalan Presint 5 (towards Lebuh Gemilang Perdana).

A total of 80 shuttle buses, coordinated by the Putrajaya Corporation and Prasarana, will be provided free of charge, running every 15 minutes.

Shuttle services will be available at three locations: Putrajaya MRT Terminal, PICC Lobby, Botanic Garden, and the Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Roundabout.

Water taxis will also be available for public use at five checkpoints: Monumen, Anjung Floria, Kelab Tasik Putrajaya, Ayer 8, and Marina.
