US president extends independence day greetings to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: United States President Joe Biden has extended his greetings to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia and the nation on Malaysia's 67th Independence Day.

In a message released by the US Embassy in Malaysia today (Aug 31)), Biden reiterated the US' longstanding history of friendship and cooperation with Malaysia, strengthening economic, people-to-people, and security ties.

"For nearly seven decades, Malaysia and the United States have been committed to friendship and cooperation – underpinned by a common vision for a more secure, prosperous, and resilient future.

"Through our joint commitment to promoting a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific region, I am confident that the bonds between our countries will continue to flourish," he said.

He highlighted efforts to empower entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, through programmes to share knowledge, skills and networks to launch and scale successful businesses globally.

Over a hundred thousand citizens from all over the country gathered at the nation's capital in Putrajaya today to watch the National Day parade.

The grand festivity was attended by Sultan Ibrahim, as well as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Cabinet members.
