SHAH ALAM: A 64-year-old bank retiree has become the latest victim of a 'love scam' reported in Selangor, with a total loss of RM1.98 million.
State police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the incident occurred after the retiree was persuaded to make 12 transactions to 12 unknown accounts to redeem a parcel between May until recently.
He said the victim lodged a police report around 4.10pm yesterday.
The police have since opened an investigation paper under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' jail and whipping.
Hussein reminded the public not to easily fall prey to such love scams, entertain or trust unknown individuals and acquaintances on social media.
