Creative industry and telecommunications to be key Budget 2025 focus: Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: Telecommunications and the creative industry are among the key sectors to be prioritised in the upcoming 2025 Budget, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the sectors, particularly telecommunications were prioritised to ensure educational institutions would have access to robust Internet infrastructure.

"This has been mentioned by the prime minister in ensuring that schools and higher learning institutions have the best possible internet coverage, outdoors and indoors.

"This is one of the priorities we hope will be addressed in the 2025 budget," he said in a press conference after attending the Kita Bagi Jadi initiative launching ceremony at Menara CIMB, here.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said significant attention was also given to the creative industry, which he described as a critical driver of the nation's creative economy.

"The creative economy, led not only by MyCreative Ventures but also by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas), will be a top priority.

"We've seen positive outcomes from government initiatives such as the FIMI, and there are several proposals we're considering for the upcoming budget."

He said everyone can look forward the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's budget announcement on Oct 18, which is expected to shed more light on the allocation for these sectors.

"Our focus will remain on these two sectors—telecommunications and the creative industry," he said.
