Sabah reconsiders proposal to co-host SEA Games

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will review and reconsider a proposal to co-host the South East Asia (SEA) Games.

Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin said this was agreed to by the state Cabinet yesterday.

Last month, federal Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that Sabah, Sarawak, and Penang had agreed to co-host the SEA Games.

She also said Sabah was willing to contribute RM100 million to assist in the event's organisation.

The Sabah Cabinet's decision to reconsider the proposal to co-host the games follows its evaluation of various aspects.

Now, the Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry will meet its federal counterpart to obtain more details on the hosting of the SEA Games 2027, before the state Cabinet decides on the matter.

"However, the state government welcomes the federal government's intentions to host the SEA Games and it will give its full support to ensure the SEA Games' success."
