GEORGE TOWN: Several parts of Penang were hit by flash floods following continuous rain throughout the day.
Among affected areas include Bayan Lepas and Kepala Batas.
In Kampung Pongsu Seribu, Kepala Batas, the roofs of several houses were blown off due to strong winds.
Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he was told that several houses in his constituency were damaged.
He said his team visited the affected houses and reported the matter to the relevant agencies.
"I was also told that many houses in Kampung Permatang Langsat, Permatang Durian, Lahar Tiang and many others were inundated in floodwaters," he said.
Meanwhile, the Jalan Perak fire and rescue station was alerted about the flash floods in Lebuh Nipah 2, Bayan Lepas, near SMK Sungai Nibong at 2.20pm.
Operations commander Azmiza Mustafa said heavy rain resulted in several roads to be inundated in floodwaters.
He said a few vehicles were trapped.
"Our personnel moved the vehicles to higher grounds. The situation is under control," he said.
He said they were monitoring the situation.
Just four days ago, some parts of the island were hit by flash floods following heavy rain.
Several clips shared on social media showed the main road in Bayan Baru, particularly Jalan Mayang Pasir, inundated by floodwaters.
