TNB cable bridge in Bayan Lepas partially collapses

GEORGE TOWN: A cable bridge belonging to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in Bayan Lepas near here partially collapsed yesterday.

State Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the incident happened because the cable bridge structure could not withstand the weight of the 275kV cable.

He said TNB took immediate actions after the incident.

"The cable bridge collapsed happened at the 275kV project leading to Intel.

"The collapsed happened at cable bridge No 1 near Motorola.

"TNB immediately pulled out the cable, dismantled the cable bridge structure and added piling in the middle to increase the strength of the cable bridge," he told the New Straits Times today.

Zairil said the TNB grid project had informed Intel of the matter.

The project is expected to kick off at the end of November.
