Detained Singaporean woman defied instructions, hurled abuse at officer: Mohamad Fazli

JOHOR BARU: The Singaporean woman who was detained here argued with an immigration officer, defied instructions and used offensive language, Johor Works, said Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.

"She was also recorded disobeying instructions not to film in the restricted area and using offensive language towards the officer," Fazli said when contacted, today.

He said footages from the closed-circuit television sets installed at the complex captured the woman engaging in a heated argument with an officer at the counter.

He added the woman was initially held for investigation, but her refusal to cooperate resulted in the detention period to be extended to six days.

She was then released with a stern warning.

Fazli reminded the public to remain calm and follow the instructions of on-duty officers, especially in high-security areas like the CIQ, which are monitored by CCTV.

"This case is not an isolated incident, its important to comply with the regulations and restrictions at these checkpoints," he added.

Earlier, a Singapore-based portal reported that the woman was on her way to Johor Baru when the incident occurred on Aug 7.

In the report, the woman, identified as Atalia Chua, claimed the episode began when her biometric scan failed twice.

This led her to approach an immigration officer at one of the counters at the complex. Chua, however, was informed by the officer that the counter was closed.

Chua, in the report, claimed that the officer became upset, and the argument escalated after she questioned how another person had been able to use the same counter.

The officer, she said, alleged became aggressive after Chua recorded the incident.
