KUALA LUMPUR: The cooperation between government agencies and media outlets like Media Prima Bhd, which is the largest in the country, should be strengthened, says National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) director-general Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus.
He said this in his visit to the company's headquarters at Balai Berita in Bangsar here today (Sept 9).
The aim of having good cooperation, he said, was to disseminate information to help people prepare for natural disasters.
"Based on discussions, we hope that Media Prima can assist in informing the public about necessary actions during a natural disaster and provide early warnings regarding steps to take when facing it.
"At the same time, this engagement is essential because we recognise the media as a strategic partner in the country's development," he added.
The Nadma delegation was led by Khairul Shahril, along with his deputies (policy planning and preparations) Zamakhshari Hanipah and (operation execution) Meor Ismail Meor Akim.
They were welcomed by Media Prima Bhd group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid, Media Prima group managing director Rafiq Razali, Media Prima Omnia chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Efendi Omar, Media Prima Television Networks deputy group editor (news and current affairs) Azhari Muhidin, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, Media Prima corporate communications group general manager Azlan Abdul Aziz and NST group editor Farrah Naz Karim.
Present were Berita Harian content and digital executive editor Zainuddin Mohd Isa and Harian Metro executive editor Mohammad Safar Ahmad.
Mohammad Anis Abdullah of Media Prima Omnia presented a special session on the corporate overview of Media Prima to the Nadma delegates.
