Malaysians advised to delay travel plans to Vietnam's Ha Long and Sa Pa regions: Embassy

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians planning to travel to Ha Long and Sa Pa, Vietnam are advised to postpone their travel plans for the time being.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Hanoi, Vietnam said this is due to the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.

"Malaysians living, working, or needing to travel to affected areas for essential reasons are advised to closely monitor local news in the coming days.

"Malaysians are also encouraged to register via the e-register portal at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my/login, take all necessary precautions, and follow any recommendations or instructions issued by the relevant local authorities," it said in a Facebook post yesterday.

It added that the typhoon also caused severe flooding and landslides in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, and Cao Bang.

Local authorities also have warned that continuous rainfall and rapidly rising water levels may result in widespread flooding across the northern region, including areas around Hanoi.

It also issued a flood warning in Hanoi due to the Red River's water level reaching at least Alert Level 1 is in effect for the following areas: Phuc Tan Beach (Phuc Tan Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi), Phuc Xa Beach (Phuc Xa Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) and Tu Lien, Quang Ba, Phu Thuong (Tay Ho District).
