KAJANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declined to comment on remarks made by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who accused the Malay component parties in the government of being weak.
"It's okay, for Haji Hadi, only he is strong," quipped Anwar after attending Friday prayers at Masjid Al-Iman Desa Putra here today.
Yesterday, Hadi was reported to have said that Malay component parties in the government were not capable of handling their non-Muslim counterparts on issues related to halal certification.
He said that despite most parties in the government being guided by Malay and Islamic principles, they still failed to protect the sanctity of Islam from alleged interference by non-Muslims.
Hadi was referring to the silence of several Malay leaders in the unity government, who did not question a statement by DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok regarding the proposed halal certification for restaurants operated by non-Muslims.
Hadi urged the Malay parties in the unity government not to continue colluding with the shortcomings of non-Muslim leaders, who he claimed were questioning issues related to the official religion of the country.
