KUALA LUMPUR: A police report and complaint with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission will be lodged over false reports claiming that former chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali has died.
Sedania Innovator Bhd, in a statement today, also requested media outlets responsible for disseminating the false news to retract the reports and issue a public apology to Abd Halim, who is currently the company's chairman of the company.
"We categorically deny the false reports currently circulating in certain online portals and social media platforms regarding the health of our chairman.
"The claim that he has passed away is entirely false. He is alive and well.
"A former police report and a report to the MCMC is in process," the statement said.
Abd Halim, in the statement, said the false news has caused unnecessary panic and distress among his family and loved ones.
"Since last night, I have been receiving numerous calls from close ones, friends, and acquaintances, which has only fuelled anxiety and worry.
'I'm still strong and healthy.
"I'm thoroughly enjoying my regular morning walks every day and am eagerly looking forward to an exhilarating journey ahead," he said.
Earlier, Abd Halim told Berita Harian that he was shocked to hear reports claiming that he had died.
" I am puzzled that such reports were made without verification, either from me or my close family members," he said.
