Strong winds blow off part of SMK Tamparuli roof

TUARAN: Strong winds this afternoon blew off the roof of SMK Tamparuli, causing significant damage to the secondary school's building.

In the 1.30pm incident, a large portion of the roof was blown some 100 metres away.

The affected areas included the teachers' office and the science laboratory.

No injuries or casualties were reported, as the school was empty due to a week-long holiday that will last until next week.

A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's operations centre confirmed that they received a total of 23 calls related to fallen trees in several districts since this morning.

The spokesman said there were three cases in Tenom, two in Papar, four in Penampang, five in Kota Kinabalu, and three in Kuala Penyu.

The spokesman also said one case was reported in each of the following areas: Sook, Kota Belud, Sipitang, Tuaran, Putatan, and Kudat.
