KUALA LUMPUR: The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in five states until noon today.
The agency announced on a Facebook post that the states were Penang, Perak (Kerian and Larut, Matang Dan Selama) and Negeri Sembilan (Tampin).
"Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds will also affect Melaka and Johor (Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat)," it said.
The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimeters (mm) per hour that are expected to last for an hour or more.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance.
