BAGAN DATUK: A seaside restaurant and fishing platform in Bagan Sungai Burung, near Rungkup here, were damaged due to large waves during a storm today.
Bagan Datuk Civil Defence Force officer Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi said they rushed to the scene after being alerted by members of the public at 9.45am. Fazly said there was heavy rain for over two hours starting from 4am.
"Thunderstorms and strong waves hit the coastline, which caused severe damage to the structures of the restaurant and fishing platform. However, no casualties were reported.
"The public is advised to be cautious as the phenomenon of high tide is forecast from Sept 16 to Sept 23 with the possibility of sea levels rising to 3.5 metres," he said.
He advised residents living near the coast to stay alert for unpredictable weather conditions.
"Small boats are discouraged from going out to sea and emergency numbers should be contacted immediately in the event of a disaster or assistance," he added.
