Three fish platforms burned by mentally unstable man

MANJUNG: A mentally unstable man was detained after allegedly setting fire to three fish platforms in Pantai Remis here today.

In the incident around 1am, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire.

Manjung district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman, said the actions of the 64-year-old suspect were recorded by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera before he was detained near the scene.

According to him, the suspect set fire to the platforms using a flammable substance believed to be petrol, before attempting to flee.

"Based on a report made by the platform owner, the estimated loss incurred is RM470,000. The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire," he said.
