Cameron Highlands closes forest reserve, parks due to bad weather

KUANTAN: The Cameron Highlands District Forestry Office has temporarily closed recreational activities in the Permanent Forest Reserve for five days starting Wednesday.

The closure follows weather forecasts predicting thunderstorms and rain in the district throughout this week, which could lead to landslides and fallen trees.

Cameron Highlands district forest officer Arifhadi Johari Affandi said activities such as hiking in all permanent forest reserve areas in Cameron Highlands, including the Mossy Forest Eco-Park and the camping site at Sungai Pauh Eco-Park, are affected.

"For hiking and camping reservations made during this closure period, applicants are advised to contact the Cameron Highlands District Forest Office to reschedule their bookings, subject to availability."

"We prioritise the safety of visitors, and the decision to temporarily close the permanent forest reserve in Cameron Highlands, Mossy Forest Eco-Park, and Sungai Pauh Eco-Park was deemed appropriate to prevent any unwanted incidents," he said when contacted today.

He noted that Mossy Forest Eco-Park and Sungai Pauh Eco-Park are key attractions for both local and international tourists visiting Cameron Highlands.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) of Peninsular Malaysia mentioned that operations at the Canopy Walkway in Taman Negara Pahang are also temporarily closed due to damage from fallen trees.

The Canopy Walkway activities will be suspended until a date to be announced later.
