Thai woman dies after fall from tree

BESUT: A Thai woman died after falling from a petai tree in Kampung Pasir Kanan, Padang Bual in Hulu Besut, here, today.

In a statement, district police chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad said Hameedah Derasing Mamong, 53, was pronounced dead at a relative's house in Kampung Lepan Kejor in Hulu Besut.

He said the victim, who hailed from Yala in Thailand, was found seriously injured by her family members before being taken home.

He added that the complainant, who is her sister-in-law aged 57, went to the orchard with the victim around 9am today.

"Upon arriving at the orchard, the victim mentioned she wanted to look at a petai tree, while her sister-in-law inspected a duku tree."

Rozak stated the sister-in-law heard a thud shortly after and found the victim lying on the ground in pain.

"She and her husband then took Hameedah home, where she was pronounced dead at 2.47pm.

"The victim's body was taken to the Besut Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination.

"It revealed that the victim died due to injuries sustained from falling from a height, and the case has been classified as a sudden death."
