[UPDATED] IGP: Peacocks, horses among assets worth millions linked to GISB seized

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have frozen millions of ringgit worth of land, assets, and vehicles linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB), which is under probe for, among others, child labour, abuse and exploitation.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that to date, they have seized a total of 38 vehicles worth almost RM4 million.

"The Anti Money Laundering Unit also seized RM882,795.94 cash involving 138 bank accounts.

"Fifteen of those accounts had been closed.

"Among other assets frozen included 14 plots of land," he told reporters at a press conference today.

He said other assets seized included nine horses, 14 rabbits and three peacocks, RM18,650 cash and two watches worth RM600.

"The seizures were made under Section 44(1) and Section 45(2) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001," he said.

Razarudin said phase four of Op Global led to police seizing a total 455 books, pamphlets and logos linked to the company.

"We also seized 90 mobile phones, 16 computers and RM904 cash," he said.

He said police, during a raid at a location in Rawang, also seized facial hair, believed to be from the beard of a GISBH top leader.

The items , he said, have been referred to the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) as it contained elements that went against the teachings of Islam.

GISBH has been at the center of police investigations after raids on Sept 11 on 20 welfare homes allegedly linked to the company saw 402 people rescued, including some as young as one.

Police said screenings on the children showed that many had suffered physical and emotional injuries.

Police also claimed that some children had been sodomised.

GISB has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
