Selangor gazettes fatwa declaring GISB's teachings, practices 'deviant'

SHAH ALAM: The fatwa declaring the teachings and practices of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) to be deviant has been gazetted by the Selangor government.

Approved by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the fatwa was published in the Selangor State Government Gazette on Oct 16.

The ruling states that GISB's beliefs and activities deviate from the true teachings of Islam as understood by Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah, both in terms of creed and Islamic law.

"Any Muslim in the State of Selangor is prohibited and forbidden from practising, adhering to, following, teaching, spreading, expanding, or supporting the beliefs, teachings, doctrines, or practices of GISB and its affiliates", said Mais chairperson Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof in a statement

Aziz added this prohibition extends to any teachings or practices similar to those associated with GISB.

He also said that Muslims who have been involved with the prohibited practices are urged to repent and seek forgiveness, with authorities responsible for aiding in their rehabilitation.

To support the fatwa, Mais, in collaboration with state agencies, has developed a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for GISB followers.

Aziz explained that this initiative covers both adults and children and includes aspects such as protection, religious guidance, and counselling.

At the same time, Mais also endorsed the voluntary rehabilitation programme offered by the federal government to followers of GISB.

"Mais welcomes members of GISB to come forward voluntarily for this rehabilitation," the Aziz stated, stating its commitment to providing resources such as manpower, financial support, and facilities to ensure the success of the programme.

Aziz then cautioned that any person who violates or challenges the fatwa is committing an offence under Paragraph 12(c) of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Selangor) 1995.

On Oct 3, Selangor declared GISB as an entity that promotes deviant teachings contrary to Islamic teachings

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had consented to the decision made by the Selangor Fatwa Committee on the beliefs, teachings, practices and activities conducted by GISB and its affiliates.

On Oct 14, Melaka became the latest state to declare GISB deviant, after the Melaka Fatwa Committee found its teachings and practices exhibit similarities to elements associated with Al-Arqam, which was declared deviant in 1994, as well as Syarikat Rufaqa' Corporation Sdn Bhd (SRC), which was banned in 2007.
