Cop runs to Mahkota polling station after arriving from Putrajaya

KLUANG: Mohd Khairul Ibrahim may be used to running after criminals but today the police sergeant was running towards the ballot box.

The 38-year-old was transferred to the Putrajaya district police headquarters nine months ago but votes in Mahkota, where a by-election is being held.

Mohd Khairul who left Putrajaya at 2.30pm, arrived at the district police headquarters at 4.53pm, seven minutes before early voting closed and ran into the polling centre.

"Alhamdulillah, I managed to make it in time," he said.

After casting his vote, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, spent several minutes with Mohd Khairul.

"It was good to see him returning to fulfil his duties, despite almost missing the 5pm deadline," he said.

Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said 4,226 out of the 4,911 eligible early voters cast their ballot papers today.

The Mahkota by-election, which will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional's Mohammad Haizan Jaafar, will be held on Sept 28.
