KLUANG: Some 4,510 military personnel, their spouses and 401 police officers in the Mahkota constituency are expected to cast their early votes today.
There are three early votes polling stations, namely at the Army Mahkota Camp, the district police headquarters' Dewan Pengaman Zamrud, and Sultan Sir Ibrahim Primary School.
The polling stations will be opened from 8am to 5pm.
A thick fog covered the district today, although the Malaysian Meteorological Department predicated clear skies in the morning and heavy downpour later in the afternoon.
Mahkota (N.29) has 66,318 registered voters, according to the updated electoral roll as of August 2.
The constituency's ethnic breakdown consists of 56 per cent Malay (37,228 voters), 34 er cent Chinese (22,468 voters), 8 per cent Indian (5,147 voters), and 2 per cent from other ethnic groups (1,475 voters).
The Sep 9 by-election is a one-on-one contest between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.
The by-election was triggered following the death of its asssemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on August 2.
