KUALA LUMPUR: Four district local councils in Selangor will soon adopt a standardised guideline under the Lembah Klang Raya Metropolis initiative, providing more efficient administration and services for over one million of its residents.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this initiative is aimed at unifying and streamlining enforcement of laws across the four cities, Klang, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Subang Jaya.
In a post on his social media yesterday, he said this unification process will transform the four cities in Selangor into a prominent metropolitan area and help attract investments into Malaysia.
"The Lembah Klang Raya project was announced in the 2024 Budget, which allocated RM2 million for integration of the four cities into a metropolis.
"This initiative which is set to kickstart next year is also expected to enhance the competitiveness of these cities, and prevent any implementation redundancies in terms of expertise, resources, and finance," he said via post on his social media page.
Aminudin said a metropolis is a city with a population exceeding one million, functioning as a center for administration, business, commerce, industry, and high technology, in which these four cities when combined translate into about 3.4 million residents.
"This initiative aligns with previous announcements and aims to streamline the enforcement of laws across these municipalities.
"The state government established a Standardisation Committee under the Klang Valley Raya Development Main Committee to oversee the initiative.
"With God's will, Lembah Klang Raya has the potential to become a major economic hub in Southeast Asia and rank among the top five metropolises in Asia," he said.
He added the project once complete will enhance the prosperity of the state and bring significant benefits to the people of Selangor.
