Landlord lists GISB-held hotel for RM3.8mil amid controversy

KOTA BARU: The owner of the land and building housing a hotel rented by a member of GISB Holdings (GISB) on Jalan Long Yunus has decided to sell his property for RM3.8 million.

The owner, who only wanted to be known as Wan Kamil said the decision came after discussing with his family and following recent controversies involving the GISB group.

"The situation with GISBH has affected me as the building owner. I don't want any unwanted incidents tied to my property, so I've chosen to sell it," he said.

Wan Kamil said that he began renting the building to a member of the group after the Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) ended.

"The tenant told me he planned to operate a hotel and even spent RM300,000 of his own money on renovations. He agreed to all the terms of the lease, though there have been occasional delays in rent payments," he said.

He also claimed the tenant still owed him around RM10,000 in electricity bills.

"I hope to sell the property soon. I don't want to get into any trouble having GISB as a tenant," he said.

In connection with investigations into GISB, police have raided several premises in Panji and Kampung Gong Kulim, Pasir Puteh.

Last Saturday, police raided a house where the GISB CEO was staying.

Thirty people, including 20 children, were found living in the three homes raided, with the CEO's second wife present at one of the locations.

In a separate raid on a GISB-linked property in Gong Kulim, Pasir Puteh yesterday, police discovered books related to the banned Aurad Muhammadiah and Al-Arqam groups.

Police have since obtained a three-day remand order against a father and his three sons, believed to be members of GISB, for investigation into possession of the banned books.

The remand ends on Sept 27.
